Hola ;-) I am
Bogdan Botezatu

I've been working in the high-tech industry for about 20 years as a product builder, story-teller, system administrator, data analyst and cyber-security expert - in no particular order. While my current role is *kinda* public-facing, what you are about to read on this blog solely reflects my personal opinion and has nothing to do with my current or former employers.

Forging software since 1994

I started writing computer software in 1995 using the family's Z80-based computer. Armed with a HC-90, a casette player and a 5.25'' floppy drive, I spent a couple of my childhood months moving applications from casettes to floppy drives using Tape2Disk, an Assembler application I wrote from scratch. My collection of tapes and floppy drives is still functional, but my first PC did not survive this long.

The early 2000s caught me learning web-based programming languages (mostly JavaScript and PHP) via tutorials published on the CD version of the CHIP magazine. Soon thereafter, I discovered the wonderful Delphi, an object-oriented programming language for Win32. By the time I graduated highschool, I had learned the ins and outs of Windows programming. Some of my games and applications are still online, while others have never seen the light of day.

Work Experience

Working in cyber-security since 2008. I'm currently Director of Threat Research at Bitdefender, where I'm building awesome stuff, curating the news and helping people get their data back after ransomware infections.

Snakes on a Plane - How to Use Python to Import Flights Into Your Calendars

For the past few years, I have been using App in the Air to track my flights. As I’m extremely paranoid with what applications have access to (and most of the time I travel for business purposes), I’m not in the best position to forward documents or grant random apps access to my inbox.
